My daughter just turned 2. She was a late walker (started at 18 months). Her left foot turns out(not alot, but enough to be noticed) and is bowed at the ankle. It looks like it can break @ anytime. It's not causing her any pain. I was concerned when she started walking and asked my dr. She said is was ';ducked'; and she should grow out of it. I'm concerned it's something more serious. It's been almost 7 months. She can't run that good and waddles when she runs or walks. I'm wondering if she needs a brace. Did anyone else have this problem and how did you fix it? What is this condition called? Do you know anyone that has had this problem? Any info will be greatly appreciated. ThanksMoms advice or info would be great?
Well I know when my brother was born he had foot problems and they used a brace which fixed it completely, otherwise he would have had to have surgery which probably wouldn't have been very successful, so I'd definetly recommend looking into a brace while her bones are still at an early stage.Moms advice or info would be great?
I would talk to your dr again, and if she doesn't give you some advise, I would go somewhere else. If she walked late, and still seems to be having problems, she may need a brace, especially if it's only one foot.
If your doctor still tells you she'll grow out of it, it's time for a second opinion.
To begin with, all toddlers ';waddle'; to a certain degree, that's where the name ';toddler'; came from. However I would suggest asking for a 2nd opinion about your daughter's leg or a referral to a specialist.
Ask for a referral to a podiatrist. I'm not going to try to diagnose your daughter, but this sounds like something you may want to check out. Good job for trusting your maternal instinct - it's stronger than any doctor's prediction! Getting a second opinion never hurts. Also, you may want to see a neurologist. Get both opinions, and see what they recommend. She could need a brace, and/or a little physical therapy might help her. Good luck!
I would say you should get a second opinion! Before your daughter gets older it may be better now!
Take her to at least two podiatrists and see what they say.
